So you know those crosswalk buttons? And how there are usually two on the pole, one for each direction?
I was waiting to cross the street and I hit the button for the direction I was NOT going.
During rush hour.
For absolutely no reason, with one push of a button, I stopped very busy commuters trying to make it to work on time.
And I have to say, it felt kind of powerful. (And felt a little guilty too).
So all day that day, I reflected on what kind of power I had. Here’s what I found:
I had the power to say no to an old-fashioned glazed donut. I had the power to stay strong in a very stressful situation. I had the power over the choice to freak out and fall apart, or to remain hopeful, encouraged and positive. I chose the latter. I had the power to make someone smile…laugh, actually.I had the power to pick out my outfit and express my style and creativity. I had the power to get sh*t done…and reward myself by kicking my feet up at the end of the day.
And I could go on. Because in reality, we have way more power over our lives than we think.
It’s pretty cool. Don’t you think?
