Last week I had the privilege of staying at our friend’s home in Portland. He and his wife were our closest friends – for 25 years. She died a year ago from a brain tumor. She loved her home. And being among her things was so very comforting. It was as if she was right there with us the entire time of our stay.
She had such an impact on our lives. All the memories of the times we spent together washed over us. The last time we spent time with them as couples, it was one of the best nights of my life. We laughed incredibly hard. I woke up the next morning with the biggest, broadest smile on my face. Even my daughter asked me why I was smiling.
So many inside jokes, so many fantastic times together.
And it turns out, I’m not the only one who felt this way. Her memorial service was packed to the gills with a profusion of others who adored her. And there was an open mic for folks to get up and pay tribute to her.
So many stories.
Stories about how she’d throw caution to the wind, how she was always ready for an adventure, how she’d laugh at herself, and how she had left an indelible mark on those of us left behind. We were all witnesses to a life very well lived.
The last time I saw her – a few months before she died – she said, “Jennifer, I know I’m going to die from this, but I love my life and I am so happy to have lived it.” And I will leave you with that to ponder for this week.
P.S. The picture above is my friend with her first grandchild. She would walk over hot coals and move mountains to be with her grandchildren.

So, remember last week I got on my high horse about the term “anti-aging?” Well, apparently there’s anti-aging for your vaginatoo. WTH? I guess I’ll have to stop training for that triathlon so my vulva doesn’t sag. (Shape)[ Wise ]
“Our greatest source of joy is the world around us.” Think about it. It is so very true. For instance, my sister has her very favorite piece of artwork in her bedroom – not in her living room, where she can show it off. The reason? It brings her so much joy that it’s the first thing she wants to see when she wakes up in the morning or the last thing she wants to see before she goes to sleep at night. And bought Prada shoes for 60 bucks from The RealReal. Yes, Prada. Yes, $60. And I am in love with them. Last week I discussed textile waste and how we can help put a dent in it by shopping online consignment. I’m just walking the walk and doing my part. (LOL) (The RealReal)
