So, Susie…Tell us about your morning beauty routine and why it’s important for women our age.

First of all, I’m beauty connoisseur of sorts. I love make-up and have worn it since the beginning of time. I strongly feel that if we want to look fresh and put together, putting effort into a beauty routine is key. This builds on what I discussed in the article how to look younger and lighter.

One thing to note is that I don’t spend a lot of money on moisturizers, cleansers, toners, etc. I just don’t believe that they make that much of a difference, and my dermatologist tends to agree. We also both agree that a retinol product – the prescription grade that you can easily get from your doctor – is essential to reducing wrinkles and getting fresh-looking skin. I use one after I cleanse my face at night. Where I do spend my money is on quality cosmetics that I can use over and over again.

My morning routine takes me only 10 minutes and here’s how it goes:

I wash my face with Cetaphil. Seriously, washing your face is about removing dirt and oils. And that’s what Cetaphil does. Like I said, I don’t believe that you need fancy, expensive cleansers. Simple drugstore brands are just fine.

I skip the moisturizer and go right to sunscreen. I use various sunscreens. Try to find one that doesn’t feel sticky or greasy, and works well with your skin type.

Then I apply my foundation. Now, this is where I spend my money because I think it’s really important to get the perfect shade for your skin coloring. My go-to foundation is Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. When the make-up reviews come out in the beauty magazines, like Allure, this is always high on the list.

For my dark circles, I use Maestro Eraser Dark Circle Concealer – also by Giorgio Armani.

I use Bobbi Brown pink blush. Pink is a must to brighten our skin. I use powdered, but I may switch to a crème blush for more of a glow.

Eyebrows are super important

. I don’t have to do mine because I’ve done microblading. However, you should find an eyebrow pencil or powder that works for you and lightly fill them in to give them shape.

I keep it pretty simple with my eyelids. I use Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in rose gold. I love it. It’s a crayon that glides right on and has a very pretty shimmer. It also has a creamy texture so it doesn’t look dry or cakey.

I line my lids with Trish McEvoy 24-Hour Eye Shadow and Liner in smokey quartz. It has a soft sparkle to it that really brightens the eye.- Here’s my favorite trick: lining your waterline or tightline – the area just underneath your upper lashes – with any black eyeliner. It’s amazing how it opens up your eyes.

I apply several coats of mascara which makes me feel wide awake. I’m not picky about the brand – I’ve tried many of them and they all are adequate. Mascara is a must. I don’t leave home without it.

Lipstick is also a must. I wear Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G in Bitch Perfect. It’s the perfect nude for every day.

That’s it! It’s really simple. There are so many video tutorials and blogs online that provide fantastic ideas and tips to help you along and find what works best for you.
