She walked in to the gym. I’d say she was about 70 years old. She looked like what I’d call a “summer mom” – or a “summer grandmom,” if the case may be. A fresh, fit, sporty looking woman. Well bred and well read.
And then she got on the treadmill. She put in her earbuds and plugged them into her iPhone. Hit the machine’s start button. She started running. And she started jamming. By the look on her face you could tell she was listening to some really good sh*t. She was restraining every inclination to just belt it out.
She was a girl on fire. And it gave me so much hope.
In twenty years, I want to be her. I want to be working out, jamming to Childish Gambino.
I want to continue to feel young, maybe even juvenile in my approach to life. Living life on my own terms and not holding back.
I want to be a girl on fire.

“Looks like a girl, but she’s a flame
So bright, she can burn your eyes
Better look the other way
You can try but you’ll never forget her name
She’s on top of the world”
― Alicia Keyes, Girl on Fire
